If not, why not donate the cost of the game directly to the developers when you illegally obtain the product? You won't because it isn't about the game and the dev, it's all about taking a stance against a store-front as you fight an uphill battle which you aren't happy with losing, even with games you probably had no intention of buying in the first place.Īt least Epic is helping the devs out (probably) and ensuring the game can be finished and brought to market without any issues. In all fairness, those of you claiming you're going to pirate it, I can almost guarantee that most of you would have done so regardless of what platform it appeared on. The answer's easy, but everyone in this forum seems to think the world revolves around them and the only answer to a game not being on Steam is to pirate it - yeah, that really helps the developer out. If you were in their shoes, what would you do? Take a risk and launch on here, hoping you get enough exposure and sell enough copies to make a decent return to cover all costs you now have to fund yourself for losing a publisher or make a deal with another store-front which gives you a bit of financial freedom to cover you in the short, and possibly long, term? ![]() So, in came Epic and clearly offered them an initial payment, increased revenue on their profits and (if they use UE for the game), no fee in using the engine. ![]() As DF moved to Microsoft, this company were left to self publish, a very costly process - especially if they've had the Safety-net of a publisher up until a few months ago. ![]() Remember, this game is being created by a small team who were originally financially covered by Double Fine who had signed up to publish them. We get it, you don't like the EGS - you don't have to post about 20 comment threads saying the same thing though. Every time someone announces they've gone to Epic, the comment sections becomes a mess with all these pointless posts. ![]()
